This is the most important election in our lifetimes. The recent passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and a vacant seat on the Supreme Court are stark reminders that the stakes could not be higher. We know that even with Joe Biden as President, a Republican Senate can stall the progress our country desperately needs. Democrats must not only win the presidency, but the Senate as well! 

If Democrats flip four seats blue while holding their current seats, then Democrats will hold the majority in the Senate. Flipping the Senate removes Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority Leader and sends Trump lackey, Cory Gardner, packing.  

John W. Hickenlooper is one of the strongest Democratic candidates in contested Senate races. Here is why we are endorsing him and we fervently hope you will too! 

• As a Senator, he is committed to undoing this administration’s damage and reversing its discriminatory agenda. 
• He plans to protect and strengthen the Affordable Care Act, not eliminate it in the middle of a pandemic. 
• Hickenlooper supports women’s reproductive rights and will protect Roe vs. Wade. 
• Hickenlooper supports Dreamers, DACA, and believes in enacting legislation with a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, while securing the border and protecting jobs for all Americans. 
• Hickenlooper recognizes the importance of the Senate’s role in judicial appointments and cabinet positions. He will only vote to confirm judges who have demonstrated a record of upholding civil rights protections, particularly those for BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities. He will only vote to confirm presidential cabinet members who are qualified for the job and who believe in the agencies they are overseeing. For example, someone who is a strong advocate for public schools should be in charge of the Department of Education, not someone who views them as a “dead end.” 
• As a former geologist, Hickenlooper understands the importance of scientifically-informed decisions in federal policies and he supports science-based approaches to addressing climate change, public health, and the COVID-19 pandemic. 
• Hickenlooper supports common-sense gun-safety policies and will advocate for them as Senator.
• Hickenlooper recognizes the dire emergency of climate change. He pledges to reverse President Trump and Senator Gardner’s retrogressive and reckless policies on climate change, the environment, and environmental protections.
